What’s Up

Saturday, October 20th, 2007

As you’ve probably noticed, The Angriest Rice Cooker in the World has gone silent of late. This corresponds roughly to the amount of time I’ve been working at my full-time Americorps position while also working another part time job on the side. While this still leaves enough free time that I could conceivably maintain regular updates to the Angriest Rice Cooker Director’s Cut, since those aren’t really that time consuming to produce, so far I have not. I don’t have any prediction as to when that might change, or when I might have other things to say that are so compelling that I feel the urge to take up the blog again, but I am reasonably confident that this space will not remain empty forever.

Just a heads up about the state of things.

Well, I didn’t MEAN to take a week off..

…but that seems to have been what happened. This weekend I’ll make sure to get some blog posts in the can so you can all get your fix of Angriest Rice Cooker Director’s Cut.

See you all on Monday!

Lets just say that my response to this was gleeful and not entirely dignified….

I’ll get today’s Angriest Rice Cooker Director’s Cut up later today, but I just had to share this right now. Myself and my lovely girlfriend just got back (way too late) last night from an excursion to Montana. The trip was awesome and maybe I’ll talk about some of it later. Right before we started our drive over last Thursday afternoon, I was burning CDs of stuff to listen to on the drive. Like it often does, this included the podcasts I needed to catch up on, including Escape Pod, the SF podcast I’ve mentioned here twice before. Since I did a big road trip the weekend before, I had gone through most of the recent episodes, so I really wanted the one that was going to come out that Thursday. Usually they’re up by about the time we were scheduled to leave, so I spent the last few minutes before driving off in a frenzy of refreshing on iTunes only to be disappointed. So that’s the story of why it was four days before I learned that something really awesome happened to me.

You see, a couple of weeks ago Escape Pod started doing a “blog of the week,” giving away a mention and a book to one blog picked randomly from their Technorati referrers. But this week, in the podcast I tried and failed to download before leaving last Thursday, Steve Eley stretched his own rules and picked a blog non-randomly because it was “too cool not to mention.” That blog is the one you’re reading right now. This was based on my post about the story Conversations With and About My Electric Toothbrush. He described the Angriest Rice Cooker as a comic on his regular reading list. He said that the Angriest Rice Cooker would give the book in question three stars.

Having comics I wrote referenced obliquely in a piece of media I listen to anyway? Awesome.

Hello, future

Monday, June 11th, 2007

Unless you’re me (hi, me!) you’re probably reading this sometime aorund June 11th. I won’t be sitting at my computer writing blog posts at that point. Chances are, at the time you’re reading this, I’m in Caldwell, Idaho taking the Law School Admissions Test (LSAT). I will be in Idaho until the 15th when I graduate. This should not affect the daily Angriest Rice Cooker Director’s Cuts. I actually usually do those the weekend before anyway. But it does mean that I may not respond to emails or comments for a few days. It’s not that I don’t care, it’s just that I haven’t read them yet. I hope you enjoy, and I’ll catch you all on the other side.

The Angriest Rice Cooker: Director’s Cut

Sunday, May 20th, 2007

Ok, it isn’t new comics. But as I was going through all the old comics when I made this new layout, I realized just how many of them either need commentary to make them make sense to a lot of people or have somewhat interesting things about them. At the same time, I noticed a lot of typos, spelling errors, and just plain bad phrasings that I missed in the hurry to get them out the door. So I’m going to go back through them all and produce new editions, complete with commentary. This isn’t mutually exclusive with doing new comics, although I doubt I’ll want to do both things five days a week. For now, that’s the schedule I have–new Director’s Cut comics will appear every weekday on www.angriestricecooker.com. I haven’t decided if I’m going to also patch it through to the LiveJournal or not. I’m leaning towards not, but I could probably be convinced otherwise. Anyway, the first one should go live midnight tonight, with others following at 24 hour intervals.

I think it will be fun.

We’re BAAACK! Sorta…

Ok, it’s been a looooooong time, I know. I don’t have any excuses worth mentioning. I guess I was just ready to move onto other writing projects. Which I did–although it was mostly a big independent project for school. You may hear more about that later. Now that project is done, and I’ve started back into perhaps my greatest reading and writing love–short fiction. I started to think that I ought to have some kind of a web page. Then I remembered that I did have a poor abandoned page sitting here on the web, and that I was even paying the bills for it.

So I got WordPress, imported all the old comics into it, and here we are. I don’t have any definitive plans for it. I’m not ruling out more Angriest Rice Cooker comics, although that’s not the main reason that I did this. I expect to use it for some fiction, probably some random observations. Y’know, blog stuff. Plus maybe some comics. So check out the new and improved Angriest Rice Cooker archives, drop me a comment and lemme know what you think on the layout or any of the comics. I hope to see you all again soon. I’m still working out the kinks, and would appreciate whatever comments you can give.
